Sense of materials: discovering handcrafted finishes in Hannover at Steinhoff

A 30-year-long partnership between Gallotti&Radice and Steinhoff, rooted in years of collaboration and mutual esteem. Together they celebrated the success of ‘Sense of Materials’, an experiential path organised specifically for invited sector professionals with the intention of touching the handcrafted and material finishes, a true celebration of the excellence and Made in Italy tradition underlying the collection. Fundamental requirements: uniqueness, quality and craftsmanship, the result of continuous research in favour of new materials and innovative experimentation on glass to metal and wood. These were the themes at the centre of the presentation, which turned the spotlight on a number of products such as the Bolle family, which boasts more than 10 models, a combination of the art of artisan glassblowing and nanotechnological innovation capable of imprisoning the colour vaporised on the glass while maintaining its typical transparency. Another iconic element is the President Junior desk made of transparent crystal and dressed in the unprecedented ‘crisscross gold’ finish that stems from the desire to imprint on the glass a delicate decoration that recalls the weave of a refined transparent gauze fabric. A glaze made of crisscrossed scratches forming a dense network with a ‘seethrough’ effect. An elegant and refined weave yet another demonstration of the versatility of glass, a material that lends itself to interpretation through an unprecedented range of decorations.

With its unique charm, the Pandora sideboard designed by Pinuccio Borgonovo, made entirely of glass and equipped with a double core, which shows its oxidised face on the outside to reveal a golden casket when the doors are opened. These are almost impalpable leaves, made from metal spheres subjected to very strong pressure that transforms them into very thin sheets that embellish only one side of the transparent crystal sheet. In the case of the Sensei collection, designed by Tollgard+Castellani, it is copper leaves that give life to the Rosso Marte finish that is expressed through shades ranging from pinkish, reddish to brown. Thanks to the transparency of the glass, the surface appears shiny and reflective and finds its perfect representation on all the elements of the family: coffee table, bench, console and desk.
